Wow its so busy here. with me getting a tooth pulled and feeling aweful for 4 days before it starts to feel better 4 birthdays coming up lots of visitors from abroad over the next few weeks. Euan's ear-thing (The Dokter didn't have a clue what it was) and constant rain (which means i have to work extra hard to come up with stuff for the kids to do so they don't start bugging each other) I feel like there is no time to stop at all!
I shal be glad when august has gone and things will slow down again.
Euan's dr appoinment yesterday was fun, we walked in Thomas recognised the Dr and stuffed his hand under his jumper whilst at the same time trying to hide behind me. this was the same Dr who removed the bandages of his thumb several times. She looked at Euans ear and said it looked like a scold (sp?) and asked if it was possibe he'd toughed the iron or something. I looked around the room that was slowely being torn apart by three tornado's looked back at her and said yeah I don't do ironing.
Basically she has no idea what it is so you can guess what she gave us (antibiotic cream) we'll see what will happen.
The chickens pecked a hole in the netting yesterday which took me awhile to find....

I also got an email from my secret pal telling me that a parcel is in the mail for me and it should be arriving on monday. I got the message tuesday. That should mean she's not from the UK right? how exciting!!

turning back the time

I mean to post this last night but never got round to writing it down.
The twins had gone to bed early because they didn't have a nap yestday, so Euan and I watched a film together. when that had finished and he'd had his horlicks I said to him that he looked tired and that it was probably time for bed.
He looked at the little clock on top of the bookcase and said "just turn it back on there mum" Totally confused as to what he was talking about I must have given him a stupid look as he sighed dramatically an said with great emphasis "the time just turn it back on the clock than I don't have to go to bed yet"

I mean how do you argue with that? James got his hopes up now that Euan will be the one to invent a timemachine.....

Euan woke up this morning with a slightly red and swollen earlobe, allright we'll keep an eye on it but I wasn't to worried. It didn't hurt he wasn't bothered and he's not touching it or anything.
Fast forward to the end of the day and its even more swollen a vicious red and seeping. needless to say we are seeing a doctor tomorrow afternoon. He's still not bothered by it and it doesn't hurt or anything which is whats so weird. I *looks* painful!

I guess we'll know more tomorrow....

crap crap crap crap that all I can say

the tooth is out

and I feel horrible! it hurts soo much, its only just stopped bleeding and I just want to curl up in a ball and go too sleep.
I can't even have the two things that allways make me feel better sweet tea and chocolate :(

Birthday weekend :)

It's James's birthday this weekend (I won't tell you how old he'll be he's that old). The first cards are allready here. We have nothing planned though, the boys and I will make a cake but thats about it.
I have finished my wee sockswap sock and am finishing of the last bits for the little parcel. Euan has found Toystory and loves it to bits. He also found a woody and buzz in the charityshops, which has resulted in neverending bad taste jokes from James. I I didn't now better I'd say he's 10.
Woody didn't work to start with none of the AAA batteries we had fitted into the batterycompartment. We finally managed to shove some duracells in him, I hope that they will last a long time it was such a pain to get those thing in. Woody was also hatless which had to be fixed. He is now the proud owner of a felt hat that imo looks awfull and is more an Aussie bushhat, you know the type that would normally have corks around the edge, instead of a cowboyhat. But i made Euan happy which is really all that matters :).

Rodney is rather peeved with me as I put a collar on him (and rosie too) in the hopes of stopping him killing every bird in sight. It seems to have worked so far the dead bird count this week stands on 0 which is 8 less than last week!

there was another repatriation yesterday, the number of people that lined up to pay their respects was amazing according to the bbc from basset to Oxford people where lined up. There is a little video of it on their site. The WW1 memorial has flowers piled up on all sides.

All but one of our appletrees are apple less. the twins keep taking them of conviced they can eat them only to find out they are nowhere near ready and end up feeding them to the chickens. the courgettes are being enjoyed by the slugs and so far only the potatoes and oca's seem to do ok.

We've had some real luck at the charityshops for James's birthday. he really likes his rpg's and quite a few of the boardgames that where made are now very collectable. We picked 3 games up for only a couple of pounds each and each of them are worthwel over 50 pounds now. He's also fond a local rpg group which is nice he really has missed his weekly gaming night.

I've almost finished my july minisock swap sock so hopefully I'll be able to send it to its destination in Scotland this weekend

I <3 Swapping

I'm really getting into doings swaps. from the mini sock swap I've gone into sp14. I've just been told (in a very subtle way!) that my blog is not swapfriendly lol!
I guess I need to write about me for a change.
I'm dutch and my first love is drop (sweet liquorice) I've been in the UK for 8 years now and love it here. I am married to the sweetest man and have 3 beautiful sons who take up most of my time. I am a big animal lover and have 3 cats 4 chickens 2 guineapigs and a rabbit (he was recently widowed :().
I love knitting spinning and crochet most (not neccesarely in that order) probebly because I do these the most and am most comfertable with them. But I also tat bobbinlace, naldbind sprang and weave. I sew but not often as I don't have the patience for pinning fabrics and ironing everything only to have a little person "helping" you by taking the pins out.
I hate projects with lots of seaming and love to knit on circs but avoid straights. Fun fur should be banned except for use in freeform.
For colours I love this this this and this.

If I had to choose one project that I could put time & yarn aside for it would be muir. alas I am having to satisfy myself with endless requests for toys.

I love indian food, and indonesian. What I miss most from NL (after my family!) is the food, I miss decent chips, good mayonaise and indonesian take out. I miss kroketten en frikandellen en stampot. rookworst en katjesdrop. writing all these things makes me salivate.

I don't have a drivinglicense and walk or use public transport everywhere. I have 3 kids who have motionsickness so we avoid public transport as much as we can. I don't have a decent lys near me. the nearest one would be get knitted.
I love the word aubergine strange huh? and serendipety they just sound good.
I love languages and speak several fluently, I love traveling but having 3 kids and a bunch of pets thats not happening much now. the next new country I want to visit is Japan. I am facinated by their culture and language. I have allready been to New Zealand Australia Indonesia and most European countries.

Thats the kids back :)

but they aren't dressed the same.

Yesterday in a shop a woman asked: They aren't twins are they? when I said yes her husband said you see told you so. And she replied but how can they be twins they aren't dressed the same?

What do you say to this? she just gave me this questioning look. I was to stunned to say anything and was relieved when Euan pulled on the pushchair and shouted it was time to go now.....

The twins are asleep, Euan has crashed in front of the TV downstairs and I'm trying to catch up on some emails but decided to write a bit instead.
The cats (well Rodney mainly) are bringing in more birds than I thaught possible. At least Rosie will eat anything she catches leaving maybe a few feathers behind but thats it. With rodney I'm lucky if whatever it is he brings in is dead he tends to leave them for me to finish. We had a thrush yesterday that I found belly up in the kitchen unable to really move but still breathing. I *hate* finding them like that. You know you can't leave them to suffer but you also don't want finish the job.
I picked up two nice shrubs for the chickenrun for only a pounds each, once it stops raining I will put them in. Hopefully they will allow it to grow so they have some shade in the run. I'm running around with sheets everytime it gets hot now.
My little sister is coming over on the 4th of august with a friend for a few days and the week after mum is coming over for a few days.
It looks like James has found an rpg group locally which would be great because he really misses it.

Euan has started to sound out words, he's making letters with pieces of string that he finds in my knittingbacg and wipes away writing on the whiteboard to make new letters with.
Its really rather facinating to see how he is learning to read and write so naturally. Especially now I'm so involved with learning Japanese. I find the whole process of learning another languege anything but natural. which is rather odd since I speak several languages but they where all aquired whilst talking to other people so I guess I need to find myself a japanese person.

Her regents het regent de pannetjes worden nat!

lots and lots and lots of rain here. The chooks are practicaly swimming.
The weather was still nice for todays repatriation. We've seen so many now but Euan doesn't get it, he doesn't get the cars and the coffins. the newscrews and all the old men in their uniforms standing for hours somtimes waiting for the cars to slowely drive by.
He's seen so many dead birds and other creatures the cats bring in but he somehow can't match that up with a person dying.
Tomorrow is Jeroens funeral, not much to say about that really. being so far away I am in a strange way so disconected from it all. Like, I know what has happend but I don't *know*.

I also broke a tooth thursdaynight, had an emergency appoinment with the dentist on friday now taking medication which is making me feel even worse and I won't get the tooth pulled until the 22nd! times like now that I wish James would learn Dutch so we can live over there.

On a happier note I've heard from my sp14 hostess *doing a happy dance*. SO I need to sort out the last couple of questions I've not filled in properly.

got to go

Global warming shrinks sheep

Up until now it was thought certain breeds had become extinct, in fact due to global warming these breeds have become so small they are hard to find in you average countryside.

Arnhemmer dies in rijn

This is the full article with pictures

For those of you who don't speak dutch here's a translation:
A 20 year old man from Arnhem lost his life whilst swimming in the Rijn. He went swimming with friends but disappeared after a short while police sources report.

Divers from the emergency services found him almost an hour later. Reanimation attempts did not work and he was pronounced dead in hospital.

2 friends in a week. Poor linda was there trying to save her "schatje" as she calls him. I just hope that she can somehow find a way to come to terms with this. She nearly lost her own life trying to save his.

It is still extremely hot here the kids where running around this morning but they gave up a couple of hours ago as it is just too hot. They have moved onto trying to open cans of cat food with spoons. willow is throwing shoes trough the kitchen whilst shouting plane mummy plane and clapping because he is just so pleased with himself :). Thomas has figured out one the the catches in the kitchen is broken an dhe is convinced the iron makes the same noise as the hoover does. everytime I step out of the kitchen he opens the cupboard and holds onto the iron whilst making hoover sounds quickly shutting it as I come back into the kitchen.
